Santiago de Chile, the capital and largest city of the country, is located at 520 m over sea level (1,706.04 ft) on the central valley.

The basin is surrounded by the Andes Mountain range in the east, and the Coastal Range on the west, allowng a view of the Andes from almost every part of the city.

Its strategic location makes it one of the few cities in the world where it it possible to go skiing and be on the beach, all in the same day.

Santiago is an hour’s drive from Valparaiso coastal town and main port, where the National Congress is located, and close to the famous beach resort of Viña del Mar.

This cosmopolitan city has a modern metropolitan area, skyscraping buildings, the Santiago Metro underground, and a very important financial center. It is, indeed, an industrial power as well as place of history, beauty and culture.

There’s a great variety of historic buildings, museums, theaters, universities; entertainment, restaurants, bars, shoppings, discos, clubs; cultural events and sightseeing places to stroll, hike in the mountains or bathe in hot springs.

Cerro Santa Lucía

Santa Lucía Hill is Santiago’s most striking landmark for it is the site where the city was founded by Pedro de Valdivia in 1541.

On top of the hill there is a stunning vantage point of Santiago, a spot frequently visited by tourists.



Cerro San Cristóbal

Located at the Metropolitan Park, San Cristóbal Hill offers great panoramic views of the city and the Andes, when the smog dissipates.

Visitors can walk or ride to reach the summit where there’s a statue of the Virgin Mary, with spectacular views of the city both day and night. At the park you can visit the zoo, the botanical garden and the wine museum.

Chilean wines are famous worldwide. Tourists may visit vineyards and taste the exquisite wines.

Santiago is close (50 km) to places with great skiing such as Valle Nevado, La Parva and El Portillo ski villages.
