The Amazon, the biggest rainforest in the world, is called in Ecuador El Oriente (the east), as it lies on the Eastern side of the country. Half of Ecuador is covered in tropical forests, with such a rich biodioversity that each Amazon region is unique in the types of flora and fauna. Puyopungo is located in the Amazonian jungle of Ecuador, at the junction of the Pastaza and Puyo rivers.
